Monica Ajok Malual is a recipient of the MHM awareness and distribution of dignity kits at Mayen Abun.
Before Women for Change came to our camp, we were not able to participate in many events because of the shame associated with menstruation. We were expected to stay inside the house during our periods, and we were not allowed to go to school, work, or social gatherings. This was very isolating and frustrating, and it made it difficult for us to live our lives. The distribution of dignity kits by Women for Change has made a huge difference in our lives. These kits contain essential items such as sanitary pads, soap, and a torch. The torch is especially important during the rainy season when it is dark outside and we cannot see to move around. The dignity kits have given us the freedom to participate in activities outside of the home, and they have helped us to feel more confident and comfortable during our periods. I used to have conflicts with my husband because I would ask him to buy me sanitary pads. He would often refuse, saying that they were too expensive. However, since Women for Change has been providing us with dignity kits, I no longer have to ask my husband for money. This has helped to improve our relationship, and it has made me feel more independent. I am so grateful to Women for Change for their work. They have made a real difference in the lives of women in our camp. I would encourage anyone who is able to donate to this organization, as they are doing important work.
