300 Students empowered with Dignity Kits on International Day of the Girl Child.

Women for Change (WFC) with support from Dan Church Aid (DCA) marked the International Day of the Girl Child with a major dignity-kit distribution campaign across six schools in Gumbo, placing menstrual health and girls’ wellbeing at the heart of this year’s celebration.

The campaign, held at St. Francis Nursery and Primary School, highlighted the critical role menstrual hygiene plays in ensuring girls remain confident, safe, and present in school.

During the event, WFC emphasized that many girls continue to face stigma, silence, and embarrassment during their menstrual cycles factors that often lead to absenteeism or dropping out. To address this, the organization distributed dignity kits to 50 students (30girsl and 20boys) in each of the six targeted schools, reaching a total of 300 learners.

The kits are designed to support girls in managing their menstrual hygiene with dignity and consistency were distributed to both girls and boys to promote awareness and inclusivity.

Teachers and community leaders welcomed the initiative, acknowledging the persistent challenges of menstrual stigma and lack of hygiene supplies. They commended WFC for addressing these gaps and urged continued support for menstrual health and empowerment programs.

The targeted schools include St. Francis Nursery and Primary School, Elite High School, Bright Junior Academy, Gumbo 3 Nursery and Primary School and Modern Academy. For many girls, these kits represent more than hygiene materials they are a lifeline that helps them stay in school and fully participate in their education.

While discussions on gender-based violence and girls’ education were part of the celebration, the dignity-kit distribution remained the highlight of the day. Pupils expressed gratitude, noting that the kits would help them manage their cycles comfortably and remain in school without fear or discomfort.

The organization reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that every girl child can learn and grow free from barriers that compromise her health, dignity, and education.
